Well, this is our last few days in the wonderful country of Laos, so we are spending them in the second biggest city with 120 000 people, but felt more like the size of Hope, Nelson. And we finally hit the rainy part of rainy season!
Savannakhet is famous for it’s dinosaur museum. It was really interesting, especially when we got to hold a t-rex elbow bone! (couldn’t take a photo of that but were allowed to take photos of anything behind glass) It was quite big and really heavy. The following photos are probably boring for most, but I took heaps for Lana’s son,Logan.
only bone of this animal ever found |
ancient fossilized fish |
We found a lovely bird that i managed to convince to get on my hand, very hesitant but jumped on anyway! And a photo of where we had dinner, and breakfast.
We went to Savannakhet museum, which was better set out etc than the capital’s national museum!
the gold artifacts are 8539 gms and silver artifacts are 18690 gms, made 12 000 yrs ago! |
They say there are upto 500 tribes here, but these are the main ones |
Just to give you an idea of road maintenance, and health and safety! Have to be careful on your bicycle!
can you see the pigs head? Dog was next to it but jumped tables just before we took photo |
traffic stops for sleepy dogs, cows, chickens, water buffalo, who all roam freely |
We saw yet another temple but thought the marble lions were very cool, and a couple of shots of the town centre.
Time to catch bus (8 hours but more like 11) and head for Vietnam! We LOVED Laos!
